e-Krishok review meeting at BIID Head Office
Published on: 14 February 2010

On this 26th of January, 2010 as part of the review process of the e-Krishok campaign, Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) held a review meeting at its Dhaka office starting at 11am. The e-Krishok campaign is a campaign to bring the benefits of ICT to rural Bangladesh, in particular to the farmers of rural Bangladesh. This campaign seeks to provide farmers with timely information and advisory services as and when needed. By implementing ICT into the lives of the rural farmers, e-Krishok seeks to address the following constraints to farm productivity:
1. Lack of access to relevant agricultural information and know-how is one of the critical constraints faced by farmers that result in

a. Damage to crops and/or low output
b. Loss of potential farming opportunities

2. Farmers access to seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, better farming methods and other support programs and services can be improved significantly by facilitating their access to timely and appropriate information and counsel.
This way, it is hoped that the farmers will be able to increase their income and thereby their livelihood.

This meeting was attended by the entrepreneurs and brand promoters from 20 locations across Dhaka division. The purpose of this meeting was to take stock of what has happened so far and to impress upon the attendees of the process through which the campaign is expected to work. The efforts of the attendees were evaluated, and where needed, suggestions were made as to how to improve performance. There was also time allowed for the attendees to state their opinions, issues and concerns.

At about 2pm, the meeting adjourned for lunch; and the time in the afternoon was taken to clear the bills of the attendees. This meeting was chaired by Shibly Sadiq, Program Coordinator at BIID.
