Replication and scaling up of e-Krishok campaign
Published on: 24 November 2009

BIID is currently engaged with the replication and scaling up of the e-Krishok campaign. e-Krishok will be expanded to over 100 location through out rural Bangladesh by the year end 2009.

e-Krishok is a campaign to provide information and advisory services as well as other pertinent services to farmers in rural Bangladesh. e-Krishok promotes the usage of ICT in these rural areas, with the aim of increasing incomes of these rural citizens. The services include agricultural information and advice, information on animal husbandry, cottage industry advice, and also advice on starting a rural business. These services are provided to the citizens at a low cost, so that it is within the means of the vast majority of inhabitants in the rural areas.

Through e-Krishok, it is hoped that the digital divide can be bridged to a certain extent. By demonstrating the benefits of ICT to the rural citizens, they will then themselves demand further ICT services in the future, which will improve and enhance the lives of these citizens.
